Panel member Stefan Bringezu represented the International Resource Panel at the European Institute of Innovation and Technology in Berlin.

The summit brings together experts from around the world to discuss innovation and new technologies in the raw minerals value chain.

Topics included strategies concerning supply and access of raw materials, European industrial competitiveness and innovation capacity as well as entrepreneurship and innovation in education.

Dr Bringezu spoke about the need for a standard protocol on the environmental performance of materials.

This theme is closely linked to the Panel’s work on minerals governance, and to a resolution agreed to by countries in March at the fourth session of the United Nations Environmental Assembly sitting in Nairobi, Kenya.

Other speakers at the Berlin summit included Steering Committee member Martine Rohn-Brossard, from Switzerland, and the head of the Panel’s Secretariat, Peder Jensen.
